Why political science? I asked myself this question more than 100 times in the past two years, but actually I couldn’t find an answer for it! Maybe because in our countries we don’t have something like “orientations” for some majors to know where you can see yourself after 10 years with your major that will stick with you forever!
I tried very hard to choose my future field but I ended up saying that I want to study political science because I like history and political stories, and to be honest it was my only interest! But thanks to IIT and my political classes especially my ITP class (Introduction to Profession Political Science), I was able to understand and see how I’m in the right spot, we did a lot of helpful steps and work, like working on our resumes, cover letters, our future maps and of course a lot of homework. However the only thing that the student hates is the final project! But my final project was different, the professor asked us to make a creative video for any social issue in the world. The truth is we thought about many issues but since I’m from Syria and we are in a very bad situation, my group and I thought that we can do an advocacy for Syria! This experience was the best ever; to let other people live and talk your own language is just amazing. Every person can express her/his feelings in many languages, but it’s not the same as your mother tongue! I need to admit that we faced a lot of problems by teaching my group how to pronounce the letters, but it was a little bit easy for the Mexican if we want to compare them with the Chinese and the American, but thanks to my Syrian fellows (Zeina, Jamal and Majed) who helped me a lot and agreed to be a part of this wonderful video!
I would like you to watch the video and see the details that I’m talking about instead of me explaining more about it! And YES finally I discovered that I’m in the right major and I’m proud to study my political science classes, to know more about the political issues and try to make a difference in the world!
